Medical X-Ray

Justification of the program:

The need to increase the number of Sudanese technical specialists in the Applied Medical Sciences (specializing in diagnostic radiological science), who will hopefully cover the shortage in even expanding medical services quantitively and qualitatively.

Vision:
The establishment and development of the department activities up to highest levels of international standard and at the same time the department to be the best one seen among other departments in the Sudan , in relation to activities, facilities, teaching staff and students performance.

Message :

Respond efficiently to the justification of the program outlined above through the teaching and systematic training in order to gratify the required manpower in the shortest possible time.

Plan & Regulations :

The mission of the radiography and imaging technology program is to graduate up-to-date service and research-oriented technologists, with a strong commitment to solve relevant health problems, in a rich-science environment, aligning, as an active member, with a comprehensive and devout health team. The curriculum follows the 'semester system' extending over 4 years: full eight semesters and short summer units. The first two semesters form the common preparatory year with medical and other health sciences programs. The third semester, and partly the fourth semesters are common to all departments of the program. The fourth to eighth semesters constitute mainly the specialization stage

  • Preparing qualified graduates in the field of medical imaging technology to satisfy the needs of employment market and development plans.
  • Providing students with theoretical knowledge and practical applications in various aspects of radiological and imaging techniques
  • Qualifying students with the technical skills necessary to operate sophisticated diagnostic imaging equipment, as well as those for simple maintenance, and troubleshooting description.
  • Providing knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to administer diagnostic medical imaging units, and satisfy the requirements of quality control.
  • Acquisition of professional ethics and team-work approach.
  • Provision of theoretical and practical information needed for involvement in research, and evidence based imaging.

Development of self education skills that qualify students for further continuous, graduate and self education.

  1. Normal human anatomy and physiology in relation to dynamic and physiologically based imaging examinations.
  2. Pathological processes to facilitate clinical decision and determine the need of additional imaging determined.
  3. The influence of disease and trauma signs and symptoms progress in radiological investigation.
  4. The methods that diagnostic radiographers can affect and support in health promotion and health education.
  5. The benefit of diagnostic imaging examinations and education to the population.
  6. The scientific method of applying of diagnostic imaging processes to enable appropriate image generation and manipulation in relation to the pathology or trauma .
  7. Evaluation and image interpretation in the context of the patient’s condition.
  8. Efficient practice of equipment used in diagnostic imaging .
  9. The componants of contrast agents and drugs used in diagnostic imaging examinations and emergency .
  10. The interavenous administration of contrast and the use of automatic injectors.
  11. The policy, ethical and research framework that affect the practice of diagnostic radiographers.
  12. The standard diagnostic radiographic process and specialized radiographic examination.
  13. The current developments and trends in the practice of radiography and diagnostic imaging.
